Events

Each year the department hosts several public events that are designed to appeal to different constituents in the community. Several of these relate to the agriculture program and include the annual Beef Cattle Improvement Conference, the annual FFA Interscholastic Competition, and the biennial FFA Southwest Area Speech Contest. The Beef Cattle Improvement Conference has been organized for over thirty years and is normally held on the Thursday evening one week before Thanksgiving. Both FFA events are held in April, and provide opportunities for FFA and 4-H students to compete in a variety of Career and Leadership Development Events. In addition, the biology faculty organize and host an annual Darwin Day Celebration, which is held each year as close as possible to February 12th, which was Charles Darwin’s birthday.
