I teach microbiology courses at Cameron University, including BIOL 2124 Microbiology and BIOL 4004 Advanced Microbiology. I also conduct research in the areas of plant molecular genetics and microbiology. Recent projects have included isolation and characterization of molecular markers in grasses and the isolation and characterization of mycobacteriophage, a type of virus that infects Mycobacterium spp. bacteria. Research in microbiology is especially accessible to undergraduates and there are many different project opportunities.
I primarily study plant fossils, mostly from the Devonian and Mississippian Periods. In addition I work with the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge to document and curate the plants of WMWR. I have numerous project opportunities for students who wish to participate in research.

I am interested in the population ecology of birds, vertebrate natural history, and animal distribution patterns. In recent years have mentored student research focusing on a variety of topics including avian behavior and ecology, mammal habitat selection, and reptile distribution.
Associate Professors
I am interested in physiological ecology with a focus on adaptations for dealing with abiotic challenges. I study water loss, metabolism, and thermoregulation, currently with the fence lizard, Sceloporus consobrinus.
I primarily study bats and am interested in all aspects of their ecology, genetics, and evolutionary relationships. I also use molecular biology tools to study genetic variation of other populations of wildlife. Students in my lab are currently sequencing DNA of tumor suppressor genes in bats to compare them to human DNA sequence and potentially identify why bats do not get cancer like humans. I am always interested in starting new molecular ecology projects with students.
Assistant Professors
I am interested in cell/cell interactions, and regulation of gene expression. I use cell lines to gain a better understanding of the changes in cell-to-cell communication, and the resulting changes in gene expression, that occur at cancer onset, disease progression, and during treatment.
Data Mining and Mapping Instructional Design Precision Agriculture Agribusiness and Marketing Teaching Simulations
My research interests are in the areas of precision agriculture, soil fertility, and soil nutrient management. I am also interested in delivering appropriate plant management systems to improve crop production
My research background pertains to the physiological and behavioral response to drugs of abuse, primarily cannabis and its components such as THC, and how genetic variance contributes to response. I use genetically altered cell lines to expand upon this work, continuing investigation to differences in physiological response in regards to metabolism and protein receptor dynamics.

I have been a Registered Radiologic Technologist since 1995. My passion is watching students learn and mature. It is exciting to see students transition into excellent radiographers who are able to independently run a radiology department.
