Placement Test (CPT)
What is a placement test?
Placement Tests provide information about the reading, English, and mathematics skills that are required for success in college. By assessing the student's ability levels in these areas, the CPTs help to determine the reading, English, and mathematics courses most appropriate for each student.
A photo I.D. must be presented to be admitted to the test. Acceptable forms of I.D. include a driver's license, military I.D., or current passport.
Students Under the Age of 21
First time entering students under the age of 21 are required to have ACT or SAT test scores and an unweighted cumulative GPA on a 7 semester or final high school transcript to determine their initial course placement. Students who have ACT sub-scores below 19 in English, mathematics, or reading and an unweighted cumulative GPA on a 7 semester or final high school transcript below 3.0 will be required to take the appropriate developmental (pre-college) courses. These students may take the English, mathematics, and/or reading Accuplacer computerized course placement test (CPT) to challenge their respective ACT placement.
Adult students (those 21 years of age and older) & Active Duty Military
First time entering adult students (those 21 years of age and older) and active duty military may provide ACT or SAT test scores and/or an unweighted cumulative GPA on a 7 semester or final high school transcript GPA to determine initial course placement. Without these documents, or with ACT sub-scores below 19 or an unweighted cumulative GPA on a 7 semester or final high school transcript below 3.0, Accuplacer computerized course placement test(s) are required to determine initial course placement.
Accuplacer CPTs are given at CU-Duncan by appointment. You must have received an acceptance letter listing your Cameron ID number from the Admissions Office to be eligible for placement testing. Results from the CPTs are given to the student immediately following the test.
Retest Options
Students must wait two weeks after the initial attempt. After the second attempt, students will be able to retest as many times as they would like with a 30 day waiting period between attempts. Students may test for free up through their first semester. After their first semester at Cameron, students will be charged a fee of $15.00 for any subsequent retests.
